Since I'm in a bit of a SMITE
mood lately, might as well leave this here
My original fiction series features a lot of mythological figures as characters, and honestly I think SMITE
is influencing how it's shaping up a lot more than I thought lol. I honestly owe it to that game for inspiring a character of mine whom I've taken quite a liking to and yet haven't drawn even one
picture for: Li Nezha
, a.k.a. Ne Zha, Nezha, the Third Lotus Prince, Mr. Hot Wheels, etc.
s Ne Zha, this cutie here is based on the mythological figure of the same name
, though my handling of the character and Hi-Rez's take are a tad different. Having played as Ne Zha and had way too much fun with his ultimate, I'm happy to see that they adapted his original tale and accompanying artifacts quite well in his lore, but I've gotta be honest here... I'm not actually that fond of his latest model. Only partly because it's got shoes, mind you
To wit, compare this: vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/s…

Not quite as adorable and a little too
girly, sorry to say
It's a really nice model, though, I'll give it that, and his voice is super-cute to top it off. I'm kinda holding out for Hi-Rez to offer the old model as an alternate skin in the future (and to give him more skins in general, really), and I'm probably not the only one to think that lol. In the meantime, I've decided to vent a little by finally drawing my own take on the lil' guy, with some additional preliminary concepts about how I feel his "gameplay" will be handled.
Yes, he's heavily inspired by the old SMITE Ne Zha model. That's how salty I am that it's been cut.
s Ne Zha is a melee assassin (And he'd be quite good at it, too, if only his Armillary Sash were a dash rather than a sort of reverse grab!), mine is a ranged fighter whose battle style predominantly revolves around going "PEW PEW PEW". The Wiki article states that he spits rainbows in some stories and that some of his art shows him with three heads and six arms, so I decided that it would be nice to take a cue from those aspects. Ne Zha has three stages of progression as he fights: the basic stage with four arms, a second stage with six arms, and a final stage with three heads. I'm debating whether to give the playable fighters in the "game" of my fiction project melee basic attacks like in Smash Bros. or either melee or projectile like in MOBA games, but I do know that Ne Zha would attack with his Universe Ring in melee and as a defense buffer, his Flame-Tipped Spear (which seriously needs a redesign, IMO) and frickin' laser beams would be used for ranged combat, and the Wind-Fire Wheels and Armillary Sash would be for a vertical air-dash attack and an extra-long tether-grab-dash, respectively. This kid's biggest assets are his mobility and ranged prowess, which actually isn't a mile off from how Hunters operate in SMITE
. Come to think of it, SMITE'
s Ne Zha would actually be pretty good as a Hunter with a few changes to his kit - just make his autoattack a spear-throw like Anhur and change his Armillary Sash to a dash that can grab-stun, and you should be good to go. (And now I'm thinking that it would make more sense for my Ne Zha to throw Flaming Spears as his basic ranged attack, since that kinda works better with his theme and depiction. Thanks, Anhur!)
And yes, my Ne Zha is ridiculously ticklish, especially on his big soft cute feet. And he's barefoot all the time, because he is in a lot of artwork and I like me some barefoot cuties anyway. He's practically asking
for a tickle like, all the time - and as for how he doesn't get a hotfoot even though he's floating over a pair of flaming buzzsaws all the time
, per the elemental clan effectiveness I have in mind for my "game", fire tickles him rather than burning because yes, he's totally fireproof.
I have to thank BoneBoneKing
for introducing me to both this character and SMITE
in general! I personally promised him that I'd have my own version of Ne Zha posted publicly soon enough and I hope this doesn't disappoint. I'm still sorting the details out before I finalize his design but for now I hope this enough cute ticklish girly-boy for you to handle!
Ne Zha (c) Chinese mythology, artistic license by me!
